Assessment and feedback

Suggested essay questions for everyone (third years and MA students) are here. You can also write on other topics, but you need to get your question(s) approved by me.

The ongoing global pandemic and its impact on university goings-on means that there is a reduced amount of assessment this year.

Third year undergraduates

One piece of assessment consists in 3,000 – 4,000 words. For one piece of assessment you can either write one 3,000 – 4,000 word essay, or two 1,500 – 2,000 word essays.

Your mark for the module will be based on one piece of assessment.

Formative assessment: you can choose to write two pieces of assessment, and then submit the highest scoring piece for your module grade. (If your two pieces of assessment consist in four 1,500 – 2,000 word essays, you can choose which two of these to submit for your module grade.)

Deadline 1: midday 30th November 2020 (you MUST hand in one piece of assessment by this date if you want to take the option of writing two pieces and then choosing the highest mark to submit).

Deadline 2: midday 26th January 2021 (you MUST have handed in one piece of assessment by this date).

MA students
There are different deadlines for MA students depending on whether you are full or part-time. Check the Hub to find out when you need to submit work. You can either write one 3,000 – 6,000 word essayor two 1,500 – 3,000 word essays.

There is information about essay writing and other such stuff on the Philosophy Hub that both third years and MA students may find useful.

I am very happy to read and discuss essay plans for everyone. I will have appointments set up each week that you can book for a video chat. Or you can email me to arrange a time. I can also read and comment on drafts for MA students.
